Transceiver behemoths ORTOVOX are recalling a batch of their 3+ model avalanche transceivers after discovering a serious fault during search training. All models bought after October 17 2012 (excluding North America) are being recalled after it was found that they were switching automatically to transmission mode after 2 minutes in search mode. Not ideal. It seems some fancy motion sensors the devices use to gauge which mode to be in weren’t working properly, causing the switch.
Anyone who has bought a 3+ model should grab their serial number and head to the Ortovox website to check if their model is affected by the recall. Alternatively you can call their hotline on +49 89 666 74 212, or if you don’t fancy a hefty phone bill, email [email protected].
