Looking Sideways art exhibition is coming to London

The guys behind the Looking Sideways project – a series of snow and skate-related art exhibitions that’s toured Europe – hit us up to say they’re staging their first ever show in London.

The exhibition will feature work from artists inspired by skating, surfing and snowboarding including Schoph Schophield (one half of Dalikfodda) and Corey Smith, whose work features regularly on Capita boards, among others.

Officially called #LookingSidewaysLondon (yep, they’ve transformed into a hashtag) the show will run from April 26th to April 28th in the 71a gallery in Shoreditch.

This one’s called Snake Repeat Mars by Ben Allen

Chris Moran, one of the dudes behind the project (and incidentally a regular Whitelines columnist) explains the thinking behind it thus:

Looking Sideways is all about bridging the gap between boardsports and art, and we reckon our new show and site are going to enable us to do that in the slickest possible way, and give people the chance to own some amazing art.

As the pics on these pages show, the art on display will be nothing short of rad. We’ll certainly be heading down there to check ’em out.

This is by Michael C Hsuing, it’s called Samurai Warrior of the Bird Clan apparently.

Visitors to the show will have a chance to buy no only the original works, but also high quality screen prints and limited edition archival prints of the various pieces on display.

While the pieces will be created specially for the London show, you can get an idea of the kind of thing that’ll be on offer from this video, shot at the Austrian exhibition.

It features Schoph explaining the inspiration behind one of his recent pieces, a gift to the Swedish stoner rock band Truckfighters.

You can keep up with all the latest from Looking Sideways on Twitter @wearelookingsideways on Facebook and on their recently relaunched website wearelookingsideways.com – where you can also buy prints if you’re not lucky enough to be able to make the exhibition itself.
