The southern hemisphere season is still in full swing at the moment meaning that pros that get to snowboard year round still have decent terrain to ride for at least a few more weeks. After that there’s generally a snowless pre-season period in the northern hemisphere (when snowboarders go into a temporary hibernation holed up with the latest snowboard films) and a post-season ‘let’s bust out the thongs/jandals and boardies’ period in the southern hemisphere as the weather starts to heat up again for summer. Most of us won’t be coming out of hibernation until well into November, unless of course you’re so desperate for a shred that you stir prematurely to head out to Hintertux, Austria for the opening of Europe’s first proper snowpark of the season.
The opening is set to go down between the 5th and 7th October and will for the eighth time, be sponsored by Hotzone.tv. Hotzone will be premiering the new Pirates movie (the epic trailer for which dropped yesterday) and riders such as Marco Feichtner, Seppe Smits and Marko Grilc will battle it out on the pro kicker. Of course there will also be the obligatory BBQ, air bag session and banging party – all in all it sounds like a pretty fun time if you ask us! You can be subjected to more temptation on the Hotzone.tv website.
