Emilio Privitali to attempt 8,000 metre first descent

Emilio Privitali, the veteran Italian mountaineer and snowboarder is heading to the Himalayas as part of a team that is attempting a pretty epic athletic feat. Emilio and three companions will be attempting to summit the eighth highest mountain in the world, Cho Oyu, near the border between Nepal and Tibet, before Emilio ventures into uncharted territory by attempting to ride down the 8,021-metre peak. As anyone who knows anything about seriously high altitude climbing knows, this is a pretty extreme task. Not only will the Italian have to face the normal dangers of picking a line and avoiding avalanches, but he’ll have to do in an atmosphere whilst seriously starved of Oxygen. Emilio’s companions Simone Moro, Herve Barmasse and Lizzy Hawker will be heading down the conventional way. But as if that wasn’t enough, they will then attempt to get back to the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, under their own steam – either on mountain bikes or running.
