Issue 100 – January 2012

Well, ladies and gentlemen, we have made it. This is our 100th issue, and to celebrate, we have pumped this month’s Whitelines with more goodies, features and photos than you could shake a stick at. It’s been a long old road and it’s amazing how much British snowboarding has changed since we first hit the shelves in October 1995. What’s even more amazing though, is how little British snowboarding has changed. Our scene is still as close, our riders are still as passionate and our love for the sport hasn’t faded. So cheers to 100 issues and thank you British snowboarding, see you in the bar.

FREE 100th ISSUE SPECIAL EDITION 2012 CALENDAR
As a special treat this month we are giving away a 2012 calendar featuring some of the best photos of the season. On the front we have printed every one of our 100 Whitelines covers so this must surely be one of the only calendars which helps you look back as well as forward!

HELA GOOD: HELGASONS INTERVIEW

In an age dominated by corporatism and competition it is good to take a step back and remember why we started snowboarding. This month we interview the Helgasons, Eiki and Halldor, who have taken the snowboarding world by storm with their fresh, have a good time attitude. The Icelandic brothers are the parents of Lobster snowboards and they talk to us about the industry, competing, the British scene and their love of weird porn!

METHOD – KING OF GRABS
There is perhaps nothing more iconic in snowboarding than the method. From Terje to Nicolas Muller, this humble grab has managed to stand the test of time. Snowboard trends come and go with the regularity of the Swiss transport system, but the method has endured, Chris Moran finds out why.

NOW AND THEN – THE EVOLUTION OF BRITISH SNOWBOARDING
Twenty years ago, the humble backside 180 would have been enough to secure yourself a podium finish in British competition. Today, riders are throwing down double corked 1080’s at will and the likes of Jamie Nicholls are winning international events. In Issue 100 Whitelines looks back at the history of UK snowboarding: from its tricks to its trends.

TALENTSPOTTING – THE SCOTS
There’s something brewing north of the border and its not Irn. The Scottish snowboarding scene has stepped up and is introducing a bucketful of talent and prospects. In this January’s issue, Andrew Duthie looks at why it is the Scots are taking UK snowboarding by storm, and then deep fries it.
