7 Times Snowboards Got Destroyed By Rails

I fought the rail and the rail won

Whilst watching this year’s Frontline Rail Jam recap, the thing that really stood out (other than Halldor’s insane transfer) was Johnny O’Connor‘s crazy board snap that he somehow managed to ride out of.

Whilst wildly shouting about it all over WL HQ, it got us thinking of other instance where boards were utterly annihilated on rails, so here’s a few that we managed to cobble together in our favourite internet format: GIFs. They’re gifts that just keep giving…

Johnny O’Connor – Frontline Rail Jam 2015

A back board to front lip transfer where not only was the board instantly fucked beyond repair, for some inexplicable reason O’Connor was still able to make this look steezy as hell. Insane.

Eiki Helgason – Frontline Rail Jam 2014

Only a year before the one above, Eiki Helgason managed to destroy a board in the same way, at the same competition, on the same combo of features, doing damn near the same trick, in this case a back lip to front board transfer. It was even shot from the same angle! Deja vu?

Jeremy Jones – For Right Or Wrong

The daddy of street riding, and the granddaddy of board snaps. Even though it wasn’t a full snap, it’s almost even more impressive that it wasn’t given the size of the transfer, plus he even landed it. Kinda. Well, could you do any better with an unsnapped board?

Scott Stevens – Defenders Of Awesome

Who knows what Sleepy was going for here, though you can be damn sure that he must be glad he was fully strapped in for once – we’re not sure anyone could survive the trauma of this without a board to take the hit for the team.

Will Smith – Rock A Rail 2014

Though Will Smith wasn’t the only person to write off a board at last year’s Rock A Rail in Holland, he did manage to total two in the space of an evening. He’s only little as well…

Kalle Ohlson – Helsinki

Sequence: Matt Georges

Well duh, launching yourself over a gap that size onto a skinny little bar was never going to end well. No wonder then that after this near miss Kalle Ohlson started devoting his time to youth camps – another snap like this and he probably won’t be able to have any kids of his own.

Mammouth Durette – Quebec

Sequence: Oli Gagnon

Affectionately known as ‘the unicycle’ in our office, this monster from Mammouth Durette differs from the rest due to the fact that all we can do is hope that he was alright after this – that’s one totalled board.

The aftermath. Photo: Oli Gagnon
