Regular Defender of Awesome and Capita/Union team member – Jess ‘Danger Pony’ Kimura is consistently one of the best representatives for women’s street snowboarding around.
Coming out of Squamish, BC – Jess started her sideways life off strong, hucking backflip attempts before she could even toe-side turn – and feeding off the attitudes of guys who’d underestimate her ‘because she’s a girl’.
Fast forward a few years – and Jess found her feet properly in filming footage in the streets. Offerings like 2010’s Think Thank flick Left Brain/Right Brain saw her winning a Transworld Rider’s Poll Women’s Part of the Year award; and footy with Peep Show, Real Snow, Nike Never Not and more have set in stone that this is a woman who can hold her own no matter what the playing field (she’s even had a go at a UK dome in her time).
Famously unafraid of a slam or two (hence the nickname) – Danger Pony’s most recent big appearance was in Capita’s Defenders of Awesome II which is more than worth a watch, not least for her section, and her original Defenders of Awesome part certainly still stands the test of time too.
If you’re someone who’s still stuck in the ‘women’s snowboarding isn’t worth watching’ mind-state, you clearly haven’t seen Jess shred…
