It’s been two years since UK snowboarding lost one its most well-loved characters in the form of Nelson Pratt. His memory lives on, however, and this September sees the second annual ‘Tour de Test Valley’ sportif, in which up to 750 cyclists will take the roads around Nelly’s family farm in Hampshire.
With camping and music on site, it’s a chance for old friends and general two-wheeled enthusiasts to meet up, enjoy some beers (or just a good old tea) and tackle one of three stunning routes in the shadow of Stonehenge.
Whether or not you knew Nelson personally you are welcome to take part and help raise funds for the chosen charity, CALM – in fact the Tour is fast gaining a reputation amongst the country’s lycra army as the funnest open event on the calendar. As the man from Cycle Weekly put it: “I have to say yesterday’s ride was one of the best sportives I’ve ever done. From the festival vibe on the field at 7am, via the beautiful route, friendly feed-stations, top-notch signing and en route camaraderie, to the genuinely welcoming atmosphere at the finish, I really couldn’t fault it.”
… Which just goes to tell you: if you want to organise a cool cycle event, ask the snowboarders.
It all takes place on 20th September 2014. Places are going quickly so head on over to nelsonstourdetestvalley.co.uk
