Do you dream of slo-mo slash turns, stoke-filled tree runs and laying down hairline tracks amidst wide cinematic tracking shots of rolling terrain? Predictably sound-tracked to another M83 song, no doubt, but epic enough to have you throwing sleep shakkas at your bedroom ceiling and fist-bumping your dream bros? These are the Nideckers that are, more than likely, wrapped around your feet.
Newly redesigned for the 2021 season, the freeride-primed Nidecker Tracer still holds the same mid-flex that allows you to both butter smoothly and boost out of turns, but now boasts the brand’s best out-of-the-box fit, thanks to their product team’s latest eureka moment – their ASYM3F technology.
“If you’re all about turning the mountain into your playground, the Tracer leaves no box unticked”
It’s an anatomically-led design, one that focusses on fit, feel and flex. The brand-new Dual Zone Boa System, which encourages a frankly forensic but rapid level of dial-twiddling on the 3D-molded tongue and side wall. With that, the Tracer guarantees a fully customisable and pressure-free foot feel, a perfect heel-hold and, ultimately, supreme comfort.
What’s most remarkable, though, is just how much weight Nidecker have managed to strip out of this set of bangers. With a doubling up of Boa dials, that now-famous hardcore (and deliciously camo-spiked) B.F.T Vibram Ascent outsole for grip, a Silver-Level heat-molded liner and a construction from high-performance materials – as well as a frankly no-messing big boy appearance – you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d need the wings of an albatross to heave them off the knuckle or out of a sweeping turn.
But be it straight-up ingenuity or black magic, it’s just not the case. Despite its facelift, the Tracer still has the same lightweight wow factor that left us dead impressed last season, too. If you’re all about turning the mountain into your playground, the Tracer leaves no box unticked.
