Any beginner or early intermediate snowboarder in the market for their first setup – or even more experienced riders looking for an easy going all-mountain deck on a budget – the Chaser should grab your attention. Not just because of that colourway, either. This is Bataleon’s most affordable directional twin, designed with learners in mind but capable of far more than linking first turns.
As with every Bataleon snowboard, it features Triple Base Technology – a three-step, spoon-like profile in the nose and tail with a wide centre base. While its long list of benefits are well marketed, the biggest appeal for the Chaser’s target demographic will be it’s incredibly forgiving nature.
“This is Bataleon’s most affordable directional twin, designed with learners in mind but capable of far more than linking first turns”
Less twitchiness when straight running, fewer hookups when initiating a turn and ample versatility for riding in all conditions make for a snowboard that builds confidence and fast tracks progression better than most. The Chaser feels like a snowboard that’s considered every stumbling block facing learner snowboarders and come up with a legit solution for each one.
Once you’ve grasped the basics, there’s still plenty to keep the progression curve pointing upwards. Remember, even with 3BT, there’s a full-length mellow camber running from end to end for increased power and performance once you start to work the board a little harder.
A poplar wood core, reinforced with beech stringers adds to the Chaser’s strength and durability, as does the extruded base. Bi-ax laminates add enough dampening and response to the board but keep its torsional flex soft – making it much easier to control and manipulate the through a turn.
After a few days riding on the Chaser, you’ll soon find you’re the one being chased. This is the snowboard that fast-tracks progression and quickly proves it’s capabilities once you start exploring the rest of the resort.
