The Patagonia Nanopuff has been around for more than a decade and whilst its physical appearance hasn’t changed much in that time, a lot has happened underneath the surface. We often assume that if there aren’t any visible changes then no changes have been made when, in fact, the least visible changes are often the most important ones.
Patagonia, together with many other brands, is fighting the ‘good fight’ by constantly pursuing more sustainable methods when it comes to manufacturing. The Nanopuff’s internal development is a fine example of what the company has achieved in that respect.

In 2016 Patagonia increased the Nanopuff’s recycled content, this was followed by a reduction in material waste through improvements made in 2018. And now, in 2020, they are going to reduce their carbon footprint even further as Patagonia’s chosen to use 100% post-consumer recycled polyester – PrimaLoft Gold Insulation ECO with P.U.R.E. (Produced Using Reduced Emissions) technology.
What makes the PrimaLoft Gold Insulation ECO with P.U.R.E insulation so special? Well, over the years, PrimaLoft has proven to be one of the best synthetic alternatives for goose down. By adding the P.U.R.E. element to it, the synthetic down is now dried naturally instead of using ovens, saving tons on the carbon emission front.
In addition to all that, the insulation is also wrapped in a 100% recycled polyester shell and lining, which has been Fair Trade Certified sewn.
Proven to be as durable of a choice as it is sustainable, the Nanopuff’s brick quilting pattern with its narrow horizontal quilt lines stabilises the jacket’s insulation. The durable thread used is for abrasion resistance. It’s adjustable drop-tail hem also seals in warmth, allowing you to nest inside it without having to fear that the cold is going to find its way in.
A versatile and environmentally friendly option to invest in, the Patagonia Naopuff is thin enough to be used as a mid-layer underneath a shell but also warm enough to be used on its own.
