Sometimes you read the spec on the board, then check the price, then read the spec again. The Slash Happy Place delivers a crazy amount of technology for a board at this price point. Whether you’re just getting into the park for the first time, or looking for a cruiser to turn the whole mountain into your playground, this is a great option for men and women alike.

As with all good freestyle focussed decks, it’s built around a true twin shape. The camrock profile helps to keep the ride nice and balanced, delivering enough pop and response in-between the feet, with a looser, more forgiving feel outside the inserts with the tip and tail rocker.

“The Happy Place is, well, happiest, when you’re having fun on the ends of the board, but there’s still enough snap to make it a pretty safe choice on bigger features and harder charging”

This makes pressing and buttering a breeze. The Happy Place is, well, happiest, when you’re having fun on the ends of the board, but there’s still enough snap to make it a pretty safe choice on bigger features and harder charging. The combination of biax and triax layers strikes a balance between torsional rigidity and a more easy-going playful flex.

There’s still a couple of bonus features, like the Sweet Spot additives, which run carbon stringers out from the inserts to the contact points to prevent the nose and tail from feeling too limp and loose. The poplar core is also enhanced with the addition of beech hardwood stringers along the inserts and spruce strips, both of which increase power transfer between the edges and maximise pop along the length.

All that sat atop a sintered base and you’ve got one hell of a package at a price point that defies belief. Riders looking for a more powerful, demanding ride, may be better suited to the ATV, but there’s not a single rider out there who won’t be transported to their happy place with this one.

Tester’s Verdict

Rob McCreathWhitelines

“I don’t know what your happy place looks like, but mine’s certainly nothing like the topsheet of this board. Fortunately, riding it induced a much more positive feeling.

I had my last run of the season on the Happy Place and no amount of tired legs or fuzzy head could take away from how insanely fun this snowboard is. It’s got such an easy, mellow, flex that just about anyone could get along well with it.

“It’s incredibly low priced and caters to a huge size range for men and women that I’d go as far as to say this is one of the most accessible snowboards on the market”

I found myself buttering the whole way down the home run and just switching off altogether without a single worry. I even managed to squeeze in a couple last sidecountry slashes and that rocker in the nose must be doing something in the powder because even for a 156 (I usually ride 158) it stayed afloat.

It’s incredibly low priced and caters to a huge size range for men and women that I’d go as far as to say this is one of the most accessible snowboards on the market. Someone making there first turns ever will find the profile and softer core really easy to manipulate and catch-free, and intermediate to advanced riders will love getting back on something that doesn’t chew them up and spit them out the moment they try something new for the first time. ”
