The Japow is one of those mystical boards that gained a reputation so quickly you could be mistaken for thinking that it had been around since records began. Truly a weapon in the backcountry, Weston’s Japanese inspired deck will be a dream for any rider looking to get lost in the woods.
The Japow is made specifically for the deepest snow on the planet. The early rocker rise and colossal 25mm tapered nose just glides over the deep stuff, whilst the swallow tail takes care of driving the backend down to create some serious tilt, providing that perfect surfy ride many boards aspire to emulate.

The ‘Slayer Core’ combination of bamboo and poplar woods doesn’t deliver mind blowing performance on its own, but it allows the shape to do the talking here. And with the reinforced carbon stringers in the tail, along with the ‘Electra Sintered Base’, it’s still a board that can hold its own at higher speeds, pointing through a powder field, or laying out carves when the groomers are in condition.
New for this year is the sleek black and red design, featuring a samurai holding a sword. An update from last year’s white top, this design is an ode to the boards true power and a nod to the powder-heaven mountains of Hokkaido.
The Japow certainly comes in at the more niche, specialist price tag, and it’s not going to sit high up on the lists of most recreational holiday riders. Then again, if your holiday happens to be Niseko in January, that might just bump the board up your priority list a little more.
