Living up to its name, this directional all mountain freeride board makes sure to whip you along on whatever freeride fantasy you’re facing. The GNU Whip snowboard is the outcome of a 25-year-long development process by the women over at GNU, and with the brand already having one of the best female freestyle boards on the market, the GNU Ladies Choice, we could only expect great things to follow with the Whip (and rest assured, great things have followed).

GNU has made sure to keep the ladies happy by adding two additional women’s snowboards to their range for this season, with the Whip being one of them. This board aims to please the more freeride focused females out there, and it has definitely succeeded in its mission.

“ This is an aggressive weapon and the ladies who like to charge will definitely appreciate the stiff flex of the Whip”

Too often we’ve come across the “shrink it and pink it” approach when introduced to women’s snowboards. Luckily, the GNU Whip is as far off this way of thinking as it gets. A super mild rocker in between the feet, followed by camber under each foot moving out towards the tip and tail offers an aggressive and powerful ride.

The central rocker provides fun and float, whilst the camber at each end gives the board stability, control and good edge hold. This is an aggressive weapon and the ladies who like to charge will definitely appreciate the stiff flex of the Whip.

Following the GNU sustainability standards, you wouldn’t expect any less than an Eco Core Construction from the Whip. The aspen and paulownia wood used for its core are sustainably harvested and as with any other ‘Mervin Made’ board the Whip is also hand built using wind and water generated power.

The GNU Whip is ideal for intermediate to advanced riders who are looking to take their riding further. With a mid-stiff flex this board is truly an all mountain beast.

Tester’s Verdict

Stella PenttiWhitelines

“I tend to fancy softish camber shaped snowboards, so safe to say the GNU Whip probably isn’t something I’d usually pick out from the shop shelf. But what is life about if it’s not about broadening your horizons. Turned out I absolutely loved riding this thing – it’s stiff, it’s aggressive, it’s fast and it’s fun!

“Hitting side hits or landing jumps never felt simultaneously as stable and fun as it did with the Whip”

For some reason I always find myself to be a bit shy around stiff boards, but every time I get my hands on one, they keep on surprising me in a positive way. The Whip is fast, and I love to charge. I love it even more when the board feels solid against the snow and I don’t need to worry about wobbling around and eventually eating shit. This board definitely made sure to make me feel secure while speeding up, with the fear of falling all of a sudden whipped away.

I had a great time riding this board and loved how versatile it was. Hitting side hits or landing jumps never felt simultaneously as stable and fun as it did with the Whip. I wouldn’t say this board is ideal for beginners since you really need to put some effort into your turns. However, since the tail remains quite short on the board, turning maybe wasn’t as stiff as expected. For anyone who wants an aggressive all-mountain charger, the Whip is definitely one to consider.”
