Farmers Jam 2010 – Full round up

Words and Photos by Piers Lincoln

In ten years the Farmers Jam has come a long way, gone are the old marine ply ramps, the “Cornish pasty” rail and the behemoth steel frame kicker. The slope is now a fully up to date Snowflex hill that boasts a huge quarter pipe and many different rails and boxes, including a five foot high rainbow rail. Although the hill has progressed with the times, the relaxed atmosphere that the farmers Jam has built its success on, is still a defining feature.

Over a hundred contestants turned up over the weekend to throw down their trick and attempt to wow the judges. Although a large contingent of these were freeskiers, it was still the best ever turn out for us side sliders.

To entertain the riders while they waited their turn to shred the hill, was local hero Jamie “Poshest Rapper Alive” Debbage, An injury to his arm had prevented him from entering so he made up for it by MCing the event, supported by George Walton.

There were some pretty rad tricks thrown by the likes of Jack Brohey, Jo Gaze, Lanning ‘Lon’ Canu and Nerijus Kalinauskas in the slopestyle event. Later in the day the riders moved on to the kickers, where Nathan ‘Nibs’ Allbury impressed the most.

As the evening drew in the riders and judges alike retired to the bar, where after a few swift brewski’s the judges came to their decision. To see the results and more pics see here
