Technicians to operate the snow cannons at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead are among many vacancies on offer at Britain’s premier real snow venue – where job opportunities include operatives for the piste-basher and people to assist in the Snow Play area.
Around 250 jobs will be available as the Snow Centre on St Albans Hill prepares to open its indoor slopes in early May.
With a 160m main slope and 100m lesson slope, the £23 million Snow Centre will provide cutting edge conditions for snow sports using the latest snow-making technology. The new venue promises first class indoor skiing and snowboarding at all levels from recreational fun-seekers through to experienced skiers and snowboarders aiming to enhance their competitive technique.
Facilities at the Snow Centre include ‘The Edge’, a stylish bar and cafe with views across the slopes, private rooms for parties, meetings and conferences, full equipment hire and a premier Snow and Rock outlet.
Director Stephen Jordan confirmed that they are looking for Team Members for a wide variety of full, part-time and shift-working positions. He said, ‘We are looking for enthusiastic, committed, customer focused people who will be proud to work for the Snow Centre.
Experience isn’t essential as we provide full training but what is important is a positive attitude and a focus on customer service.’
Vacancies include Technical Operations Staff, with general mechanical maintenance skills – or with electrical and refrigeration experience; telesales people; reception; catering and retail staff as well as Duty Managers. They are also looking for people to be involved with the Marketing Team.
The Snow Centre has already been awarded Centre of Excellence status by the prestigious British Association of Snowsports Instructors (BASI), meeting a series of stringent conditions in relation to both the facilities and the quality of instruction available to skiers and snowboarders.
Snowsports Director Peter Gillespie has appointed around 90 part-time ski and snow board instructors who will provide a comprehensive programme of lessons and courses at all levels. ‘But,’ says Peter, ‘we are still keen to hear from experienced instructors, provided they have a minimum qualification of BASI Level 1 or equivalent.’
The Snow Centre, which is uniquely twinned with the Ötztal region – a popular area in Austria for winter sports, says that interest in the prestigious new venue has exceeded expectations.
Director Stephen Jordan says, ‘We launched a founder membership scheme in December offering very attractive discounts for people who join before we open, and the response has been very positive. Now we’re looking forward to recruiting a dedicated and customer-focussed Team before we open for business in May.
