Based in Hemel Hempstead, the £23million snowsports centre boasts a 160m main slope and Britain’s largest indoor lesson slope of 100m. It is also the only indoor snow centre in the UK to hold the prestigious Centre of Excellence status, given by the British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI), making it the most qualified snow school outside of the Alps.
Steven Jordan, technical director of The Snow Centre, said: “We are really looking forward to opening our doors for the first time. Everybody will be able to enjoy the centre, from beginners to experts, children to adults; there is something on offer for everyone. We have lots of exciting things planned for launch day to inspire stars of the future and budding snowsport talent including race and freestyle demonstrations on the slopes.”
Snowsport enthusiasts will be treated to top of the range facilities and equipment, and will be able to ride on the best snow this side of the Alps thanks to state-of-the-art snow cannons. The centre has also forged superb links with the Oetztal region of Austria enabling it to benefit from the latest Alpine coaching techniques.
As well as the main and lesson slopes, the centre is also home to a large Snow+Rock store, a café and après bar, and a Snow Play area where children can make snowmen and play in the real snow.
The Snow Centre, built on the site of the former Hemel Ski Slope, is aiming to attract 300,000 visitors in its first year and will be the first indoor snow sports venue within easy reach of the capital.
