First ever double cork on a skateboard!

Yes, you did read that headline correctly and no, this isn’t gameplay footage from Skate 3. After no less than 108 tries, snowboarder and skater Trevor Jacob has just become the first person to land a double backflip/cork on a skateboard. To be honest we found it pretty hard to fathom before watching the video…

Now it may not be on the biggest of ramps, (which in some ways makes this all the more impressive) and it’s definitely a case of huck and hope, but this really is impressive stuff. With the first ever 1080 on a skateboard being landed by a 12 year old a few months ago, 2012 is fast becoming a pretty big year for skateboard progression. Will skateboard doubles eventually become as ubiquitous in mega ramp contests as they currently are in snowboarding or is this simply a one off? It’s also pretty rad to see snowboarding so clearly influencing skateboard progression for once when it has almost always been the other way around.

Interestingly, in a recent interview we ran in issue 102, UK rider Chris Chatt (who actually sent us the link to this vid on Facebook) predicted that somebody would land a double on a skateboard eventually – of course we had no idea that it would only be a couple of months later!
