Crazy Chile Chinese downhill – the Volcom Avalanche

Who doesn’t love a good chinese downhill? A bunch of riders, all dropping in at once and pointing it straight down the hill, over moguls, rollers, dodgy icy patches, whatever. You get riders exploding in clouds of gear and snow around you and there are times on the way down that you genuinely fear for your life…

The Volcom Avalanche has apparently been going down in Chile for over 5 years now and the sixth edition, with over 300 entrants, was the biggest and baddest yet. They even had a heli cam (kinda).

Speeds of over 100km/h were reached on course and Frenchman Joel Certano won the race for the second year running.
