Watch Dan Wakeham shred the pipe whilst taking a little time out from coaching with One Snowboarding who have recently taken on the GB Junior snowboarding squad.
One Snowboarding was founded and developed by snowboard Olympian Dan Wakeham and British Freestyle Snowboard Team coach, Hamish McKnight a year ago after both decided to channel their knowledge and expertise of the snowboard industry by setting up development camps for young riders. These camps were run on a strictly invite only basis, meaning not any young maverick could attend. The rider had to prove themselves in the field before being asked to attend by talent scout or by submitting a film of themselves.
Now One Snowboarding is hoping to take the GB Junior team to the next level and is shaking things up after Snowsports UK went into administration last year. At the helm using the One Snowboarding program is team manager James Foster who is a former World Cup snowboarder, the current assistant coach to the GB SBX Team and has now been appointed the GB Junior Team Manager. One Snowboarding will manage all the on snow activities whilst the British Snowboard Association (BSA) will still govern all GB teams.
Changes have already been implemented, especially in funding. In the past riders had to pay into a big pot for the season, which obviously proved difficult for some people. One Snowboarding has designed a new system which works more on a ‘pay as you go’ basis, allowing more flexibility for the riders to progress into high level athletes while under the watchful eye of James Foster and other world class professional One Snowboarding Team Coaches. The coaches are made up of professional snowboard athletes and Olympians, all with level 2 BASI coaching qualification.
Other changes include the implementation of a unique program pioneered by Hamish McKnight for One Snowboarding which includes class room seminars in biomechanics, judging, competition planning and career management as well as stellar freestyle slope and park techniques.
