Why we chose the Salomon Bellevue Snowboard: Not only is the Bellevue a behemoth in the powder and railing carves, but it’s also one of the best looking boards this season with some amazing Tom Hegen photography featured on the topsheet.

Tom likes to highlight the links between people and nature in his work and boy do we want to rip this board out in the wild. Bellevue indeed.

Picture the day; it’s a midweek morning, you’re off work and you’ve woken up to reports of 40+inches of fresh powder overnight onto a reliable base layer. School holidays are nowhere in sight so those big, open faces are free from holiday makers and all yours. In your mind’s eye are you going slowly down the nursery slope?

No, you’re chucking the biggest, longest turns spraying snow as far as humanly possible on the steepest deepest faces at full speed. You’re probably going to want a board that makes that feel easy too aren’t you? And it would be a bonus if it looked good doing it right? Enter the Salomon Bellevue.

Who Is The Salomon Bellevue For?

Probably not the best option for an absolute beginner due to its stiff flex, setback style and backseat camber profile. But for any intermediate or above rider that’s looking to enjoy some carves and slashy powder turns then this is a great choice.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

Well designed for powder the Bellevue’s nose is around 7mm wider than the tail as part of its tapered directional shape. Couple this with the 20mm setback stance and the tail sinks down effortlessly while the nose sticks up like a snorkel to keep your head above (frozen) water.

Sticking with the surfy turn style you’ll find a Backseat Camber profile that has camber in the back and a long flat section in the front. When you’re in powder this helps to lift the nose and provides maximum power to your back leg, without over working your muscles for comfortable, but nimble turns.

And when you’re on the piste the flat section will provide a nice stable feeling between turns. Turns that, thanks to the slightly wider than standard waist width, can be driven down into hand to the ground carves pretty effortlessly without catching your toes or heels.

The stiffer flex means that you really can push against the board for safe, high speed carves on piste without it getting too squirrely under foot and that clever quadratic sidecut lets you either turn tight or lay out super long lines without losing grip.

Construction and Materials

Medium Density, bi-axial fibreglass keeps the board from feeling too rigid with enough tortional flex for a bright, lively response underfoot. And then even more fibreglass is paired with basalt strips to make sure the board’s as tough as a brick shithouse and ready to be flogged around the backcountry at full, rip roaring speed thanks to the nippy sintered base on the bottom.

In the core you’ll find Salomon’s famous Popster profile and FSC certified Aspen wood. This is a greener solution for adding pop and response than piling in more carbon and does so by using a slightly thicker section under your bindings to create a strong, reliable board-feel under foot. Thinner sections of wood in the centre and tapering out to the tip & tail offer a natural snap that can be used to boost your ollies nice and high.

The Bellevue is an absolute monster snowboard that’s built for effortless powder slashes and gunning the piste at mach-10 speeds while laying out the smoothest of carves.
