Who Is The KORUA Dart For?

Carving aficionados who dig getting low on the piste, but love powder even more.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

The Dart’s top half looks very much like two of KORUA’s other turning machines, the Pencil and the Pin Tonic. That extended nose boosts the surface area up front to keep you cutting easily through deep snow, even at lower speeds – not that there’s much chance you will be putting the brakes on with this thing. The tail is where things take a different turn (no pun intended). It’s a sharp notch that maximises the available running length while sinking the rear, and as an added bonus it makes the whole silhouette look like an arrow.

A Float Camber profile introduces rocker in front of the front foot, gradually rising towards the nose, which accentuates the ‘hoverboard’ effect. Turns feel relatively catch-free compared to a full-camber deck, which will build your confidence and make you want to open the throttle. There’s still some camber beneath your feet though, to help keep the edges engaged when you’re in-bounds.

The Dart’s sidecut is a touch less severe than the Pencil, encouraging slightly longer, flowing turns – although make no mistake, it still corners like it’s on rails.

Construction and Materials

KORUA tend to stick to tried and trusted poplar for most of their cores, and the Dart is no exception. It’s not as light as some blended woods but it’s got bags of natural pop, which you’ll appreciate when you’re leaping from edge to edge at 50 mph.

On top of this they’ve layered biaxial fibreglass to prioritise board feel over pure response. For us, that’s nice to see. Triax weaves are the obvious choice for a lot of carving models but unless you’re an experienced and powerful rider, the stiffer torsional flex can leave you feeling less connected to your turns.

The base is sintered and red. Nuff said.

Roundup

KORUA boards are so uniquely desirable that, chances are, if you’re reading this you’ve already made your mind up. I mean let’s be honest, you’re just going through the motions of research at this point, aren’t you? Or maybe you haven’t settled on an exact model but you know you definitely want something with a white topsheet and a pointy nose under your arm this winter. Well either way, don’t worry: the Dart is a damned fine choice.
