Who Is The Bataleon Boss For?

Do you get excited when you see the local park crew has built some giant new feature that will require some balls-out straight-lining just to clear the knuckle? Done well with your crypto investments lately? Then this one’s for you.

Shape, Profile and Sidecut

The Boss is a true twin outline made for taking off (and landing) switch as often as you do in your normal stance. It’s a Bataleon, so of course the shape is a lot more nuanced than that, with Triple Base Tech lifting the sides of the base towards the nose and tail. This version is their Twin 3BT, which places a greater emphasis on stability in the middle of the board; the bevel is concentrated outside the inserts, with a wide flat section underfoot giving you a solid platform to set up takeoffs and stomp landings.

SideKicks are included at the wide points, accelerating the uplift where you need it most. Edge catches are virtually eliminated and turns feel smoother to engage; it also helps the board to cut through chop and deep snow, making the Boss a formidable weapon on powder kickers.

One of the chief advantages of Triple Base is that you can reduce hang-ups without introducing reverse camber. That means you can enjoy the benefits of trad camber which, in the Boss’s case, is pretty aggressive. There’s a ton of ollie power on tap, here, and the board holds a carve way better than your typical park deck (which will normally feature extended rocker at either end).

Construction and Materials

It might be simpler to list what materials haven’t gone into this board, but we’ll do our best. It all starts with Bataleon’s lightest core, and 80/20 blend of Swiss paulownia and poplar. This is combined with a mysterious additive they call AirRide to dampen chatter, and features a carbon tube milled directly into the centre to reinforce the camber and give even more wutang to your ollies.

The Boss is glassed with a triax weave that stiffens it up considerably. Inexperienced riders with deep pockets might find themselves out of their depth if they buy this just cos they want ‘the best’; it’s a powerful flex pattern made even more potent with the inclusion of more carbon fibre in the lay-up. If you like going fast and you know your way around big transitions, though, you’re gonna love it.

A dense, 7000-grade sintered base provides the finishing touch. If you don’t make the landing, it won’t be the fault of this board.

Roundup

The Boss brims with premium materials and 3D technology. Bataleon have spared no expense to create a flagship freestyle snowboard that can dominate the pro line and charge hard on the rest of the mountain. Just understand that, if you’re to get the most out of its powerful flex and lightning quick base, then you need to be a boss, too.
