Goggles with lenses that change automatically?!

How would you like to never have to swap goggle lenses ever again? Sounds pretty awesome doesn’t it!

While a lot of brands are focusing on quick lens change technology (Oakley’s Airbrake models and Anon’s M1 spring to mind) Zeal Optics decided to take a different route, instead putting their focus into developing one lens that can do everything.

Now I know what you are thinking, but it’s not just a lens that suits all conditions – this one changes to suit all conditions.

So the idea is basically that you always have the perfect lens for the conditions you are facing, without the faff of having to change lenses, or carry a spare lens with you.

We were a bit sceptical at first, but after watching this video from a user, we have to admit it looks like it works pretty well.

That said, there will always be those who quibble that this technology is unnecessary, but what with HUD displays in goggles and cameras mounted between the eyes (which, incidentally, Zeal also make) this definitely seems to be the way goggles are moving.

What’s next? Zaphod Beeblebrox’s Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive Sunglasses, with lenses “designed to help the wearer develop a relaxed attitude to danger – they turn completely black at the first hint of trouble, thus preventing the wearer from seeing anything that might alarm him/her”. Now that really would be cool…
