Westbeach Snowflex Series at Bearsden – video highlights Last weekend, after successful trips to Halifax and Garthdee, the Westbeach Snowflex Series descended on what is surely the most talked-about dry slope in the UK right now – Glasgow’s Bearsden.

Even with the sun out the temperature was brisk, so the spectators required plenty of ‘Vitamin T’ (directions: take one red-and-yellow can every 10 minutes until feeling of warmth is achieved) to fortify them. Once the comp got going all eyes were on the kicker; could Danny McCormick be cajoled into breaking out the hallowed double underflip?

With only 3 women in the comp, the podium was already sewn up. All that remained was to see who would come out on top. In the end it was Vaila Chapman that took the win, and she even had a pop at some big frontside 720s.

Matt Corry and Fin Bremner did their best in the junior category, but who could stop Matt McCormick? Thanks to the years of Bearsden sessions, the local lad threw down backside 900s and switch back 720s that could maybe have swiped the gold in the older age group.

Speaking of the seniors, the boys really stepped it up at the end. Sadly there was to be no double from Danny, although he did do enough to pip Jesse Smith to 2nd place. By the way, you may have seen double frontflips before, but have you ever seen one stomped as cleanly as Jesse’s? Only a fellow Bearsden local stood a chance at besting those two, and it was Pete Meadows who did the honours with a stoater of a back 9 in the super-final.

The young Scottish talent is getting scary-good. And we really do mean young – Wayne Taylor had the dubious honour of being the oldest rider by a country mile. He’s probably got liftpasses that are older than the guys he rode with that day, but he still showed them a thing or two about shredding Snowflex. Nice one Mr. Taylor, and nice one to all the riders who made it such an epic comp!
