http://mpora.com/videos/DpXEK9dz0 Lib Tech’s has recently released this video of their latest experiment, the Pow Pod. It may not be the sexiest shred stick but it does stand in a long line of experimental snowboard designs to come out of (Lib Tech’s Parent company) Mervin Manufacturer’s factory.
Co-founder Mike Olson constructed his first snowboard in the garage of his parents home, back when he was in high school. Undeterred by it’s lack of speed (turns out Mike had used cross country ski wax designed to stick!) he stuck at it. Then next winter he gave it another try and and with much success in the powdery hills surrounding his parents home he was hooked.
Some years later he teamed up with Pete Saari and together to started Mervin (named after a mutual friend). Since then they have consistently questioned snowboard design and sought to push boundaries, bringing us classics such as the Lib Tech Skate Banana – the precursor to a new generation of reverse camber boards.
Who knows the Pow Pod could be another game changer! Or it could just be a crock of shit, cooked up by the marketing department of Mervin’s new owners Quicksilver. What do you think, let us know?
Rider: Scotty Wittlake.
Location: Mt Hood Meadows, Oregon.
