Who the hell is Anna Gasser? You may well be asking. If we’re honest, we were only vaguely aware of this Austrian shredette’s existence before this morning. But you can bet you’ll be hearing a whole lot more about her in future: She’s just landed a cab double underflip, making her (as far as we know) the first woman ever to land a double cork variation off a straight park kicker.
Elena Hight has been putting a double backside rodeo into her halfpipe runs for the past couple of seasons, and several people (including our very own Aimee Fuller) have previously landed straight double backflips.
But adding a rotation on a different axis is a different matter. We did see footage of Cheryl Maas landing a double invert off a powder kicker a couple of seasons ago, but there was some debate as to whether there was enough rotation to call it a legitimate double cork.
Not only is 21-year-old Gasser’s undeniably a cab double underflip (of the kind regularly thrown by Billy Morgan amongst others) but it seems she’s also nailed it multiple times. If she’s going to start throwing this in competition slopestyle runs it could really shake things up – especially if she can combine it with that silky smooth backside 5 as a setup trick.
Could we be witnessing the birth of a new superstar? We’ll be watching this space with interest…
