BRITS 2019 Day 2 Roundup

Day 2 of The British Championships in Laax

Day 2 of the Brits saw the Picture Big Air contest showdown, it was a day of big hits, clean spins and mad winds. Mother Nature decided to kick up a fuss early on and started blowing a gale but despite more wind that the morning after curry night the riders managed to throw down some biggins. The jump was beautifully crafted by the Laax crew, and it was set to be a real doozy of a day.

History repeated itself in the Mens category with Billy Cockrell clinching the gold for the second year running, he and silver medallist Matty McCormick both ripped huge backside 720 mutes but the judging panel deemed Cockrell’s to be a tiny bit cleaner. Third place went to Fraser Jamieson who whacked out a mega 720 Japan.

The women’s competition also brought a familiar face up to the top spot of the podium with all round badass Mia Brookes stomping a huuuuge backside 720 on the first run of the day. At 12 years old we reckon Mia should get used to climbing up onto the podium because we think she’ll be a repeat offender up there over the coming years. Silver went to teammate Maisie Hill who smashed out a clean as a whistle frontside 540, and after her win in yesterdays competition she’s got some silver bling to match her gold nicely.

The Mens Masters saw snowboarding legend Ed Leigh dropping in ready for action, he threw down a mega laid out backflip which earned him the top spot. After relinquishing his snowboardcross crown on Day 1, we’re sure he’ll be stoked to be walking away with some gold dangling round his neck.
