After four days of shredding, Audi Nines 2021 is a wrap. This year’s course pushed the boundaries once again, being described by event founder Nico Zacek, creating “a bridge between action sports and design” and encouraging the riders to showcase their creativity on another level.

“This year, the innovative playground of finely sculpted features found itself a new home: Plaine Morte Glacier above Swiss Crans-Montana”

This year, the innovative playground of finely sculpted features found itself a new home: Plaine Morte Glacier above Swiss Crans-Montana. The setup played host to a select crew of top athletes from the 7th to the 10th of April while inspiring endless potential for innovation.

Even if the event has all the elements of a ‘traditional’ snowboard competition, it doesn’t classify itself as a contest. Instead, the riders cast votes at the end of the event to recognize the session’s most impressive performers in three different categories: Best Trick, Most Creative and Ruler of the week.

This year, Australian Tess Coady was crowned as the favourite for all three categories. Amongst the men, it was Swissman Boris Mouton who took home Best Trick whilst his fellow countryman Patrick Hofmann was crowned as Most Creative, leaving Belgian Sebbe De Buck as the Ruler of the Week.

“The 2021 Audi Nines was different in a beautiful way.” Audi Nines founder Nico Zacek tells us, “Instead of pushing the riders to do crazier and higher tricks, we saw progression in other fields — in how snow features can be built and in the creativity of the athletes. It felt like the most joy that they had all season long.”

Wrapping up the event, all 44 of the invited riders dropped in for one final train. No pressure to land your trick then…
