My Best Shot | Andy Nudds

Nuddsy tells the story behind his favourite photo

Everyone likes getting a good photo, and a true banger can be the one of the highlights of a pro snowboarder’s career. We asked some of our favourite riders to pick out their all-time best picture. Today Andy Nudds talks us through his pick:

“This was shot on a Dragon team trip in a tiny little place called Narvik, in the far north of Norway. It’s a place I didn’t even know existed and would never have thought of going to. That’s one of the things I love about snowboarding; it takes you to some of the coolest places.

The journey to get there was eventful; I broke both my phone and my laptop two days prior to setting off from Morzine, so had no way of contacting anyone. I overslept on the morning of my flight and had to put my Fiesta into rally spec in order to get to Geneva airport in time for my flight – which I didn’t… Luckily the flight had been delayed by two hours, so I hadn’t missed it after all. I met up with Joe Tomlinson at Gatwick and we finally got into Narvik at about 2am.

We were supposed to be staying in some wooden huts up near the mountain, but we had been dropped off in the middle of some random town where everything was closed. After about an hour of lugging our board bags around we found a dodgy hotel to stay in for the night.

“I’m not gonna lie; when I first saw it I thought ‘what the hell have I got myself into here?’ It was huge”

We eventually met up with Richard Prendergrast and the rest of the Dragon crew who took us up to the huts, and after getting our shit together we went up to have a first look at the Jump.

I’m not gonna lie; when I first saw it I thought ‘what the hell have I got myself into here?’ It was huge. I was a bit of a wuss at first, and sat at the top of the run-in watching everyone else hit it. Then after a shitload of speed checks, I had a go and it was fine.

Not too long after that, the session went off and everyone started throwing all kinds of crazy stuff. Thanks to Daniel Tengs, I eventually got this shot.

It was such a great trip in an amazing location, and as much as I love hitting jumps I’m glad I have this shot so that I don’t have to hit another one this size again. It scared the crap out of me!”
