Seb Toutant takes Stylewars title

French Canadian ripper Sebasten ‘Toots’ Toutant continued his march towards super-star status by taking the title at the Stylewars event in Australia. Toutant, who is still only 16-years-old, was crowned overall Grandmaster at the 4-star TTR event, a result which makes him the youngest ever tour leader as he moves to the top of the rankings.

Toots took the title and the $7,000 cash prize by cranking out his signature double cork tens over the 80-foot booter with impressive consistency. He followed this up with stylish moves over the other obstacles, which included rails, a wallride and a tractor tyre jib. The Stylewars jam format allowed the riders to make mistakes and really push each other, leading to some incredible tricks being thrown down. Mikkel Bang, returning to riding only recently after surgery on torn ligaments, threw down a properly tech switch backside 1260 to win the best trick title and $1,500, while Toots even managed to land a double cork 12, the first ever seen in competition! The weather at the Falls Creek resort nearly put paid to the contest, with the pros having to wait for four days in the lodge as high winds kept the course closed. Still, the time wasn’t a total waste, with riders competing for the title of Stairmaster earlier in the week on a 28-stair rail set. Charles Reid, who managed third in the main competition, shared the top prize and the stairmaster title with Seb Toutant after judges found it impossible to choose between the boys’ 270-spins to boardslides.

The consistency and overall style shown by Toutant over the course of the whole event marks him out as one to watch. He may even be a serious contender for the TTR crown this year, having won the tours first event, the Burton New Zealand Open slopestyle earlier this month. But as the man himself said: “It feels really good to be the youngest ranking number one. I’m leading in the TTR right now, but it’s not to say I will win the TTR.” Click here to see his roundup of the event.
