There’s a brand new snow and music festival launching this winter, in Bansko, Bulgaria. Horizon will run for a week between the 23rd and the 29th of March and will bring a whole bunch of big name DJs to the slopes.
Bulgaria may not instantly seem like an obvious spot to set up a rival to Snowbombing, but actually it kind of makes sense – with cheap liftpasses and even cheaper booze, Bansko is already a great place to head if you want to party, and this will just up the ante further. It’s organised by one of the dudes behind the Outlook and Dimensions festivals in Croatia, and the PR person we spoke to explained it like this: “This is to Snowbombing what those festivals are to Ibiza in the summer. It’s in a slightly more unusual destination and also a bit cheaper. We’re looking to attract a crowd who want to party just as hard, but also want to explore a more adventurous place.”
With packages starting at just £256 for 6 days accommodation, ski pass and festival pass, and £500 getting you the full 5-star VIP package, we wouldn’t be surprised if this takes off. Specially as beer in Bansko is only about £2 a pint. While some of the artists have been revealed already (Dark Sky, Casino Times, Maribou State… no, we hadn’t really heard of them either) the main acts are yet to be announced. Apparently the line-ups will focus largely on DJs rather than bands, but given that Outlook and Dimensions are played by drum n bass and dubstep royalty each year (think Andy C, Sub Focus, Skream and Benga) we’d guess it’ll be heavy.
