As we’ve known for a while, this year’s British Snow Tour will consist of the Brits in Laax, the Ski & Snowboard Show Invitational, and the British Indoor Championships at Castleford. It turns out the latter is getting a significant facelift, with ‘The Rebellion’ set to shake things up on 24th September.
This’ll be good news for those who feel that the ‘two/three runs, best run wins’ format is a bit stale. Riders will take to two separate lines, one of boxes and one of rails. Those who stand out on the boxes will earn the titles of ‘Jib Master’, while ‘Rail Slayer’ goes to those who, well, take a guess! The rest is a bit of a mystery – all BST are saying is “Only those who can conquer both zones can mount a realistic attack on the coveted British Indoor Championship title”. That’s pretty cryptic, but we’re guessing it means the best overall rider is likely to get rewarded. That’s a good thing, right?
It reminds us of the (seemingly now defunct) ‘Battle’ comp in Falun, Sweden, where titles such as Cosmonaut and Sharpshooter were dished out for most airtime, best trick and the like. Time will tell if it works, but it’s great to see a new approach from a comp circuit in danger of becoming dull.
