The Grenade Games is an all mountain festival and “anti-contest” organised by Danny Kass and the crew at Grenade Gloves. The event reflects Grenade’s punk attitude and features a host of fun competitions and parties.
In 2013 the Grenade Games was held at Mammoth Mountain and featured your usual events like slopestyle and halfpipe but also some more unusual competitions such as a handplant session and freestyle moguls. The freestyle moguls was absolute carnage as was another highlight of the week, the Chinese downhill. This event sees every rider starting at the top of the mountain and then racing to the bottom, and as you’d expect with over a hundred riders riding down a mogul field all at the same time there are a lot of epic fails and classic faceplants. There’s also an overall radical dude and a radical babe award for those riders who rode hard and partied harder over the weekend.
There’s always a big party at the Grenade Games and last year punk legends NOFX rocked the stage. Danny Kass’ rap friends Lil Jon and The Game brought some hip hop vibes and as ever it was a great end of season event in the California sunshine.
The first Grenade Games was held in 2005 and the event has been held at June mountain, Bear mountain, Whistler and Mammoth in the past. The Grenade Games aims to radically push the boundaries of snowboarding and partying and prizes at last years event included trips to Jamaica as well as your usual snowboard stash from the events sponsors.
