Andy discovered snowboarding on a winter climbing trip to Chamonix. He soon realised that climbing big mountains in winter is hard and scary, whilst snowboarding down them is actually way more fun. Absolutely useless in the park, Andy soon took to freeride and backcountry snowboarding and is more than happy to swap a few days on the pistes for a day on his splitboard. He currently resides in North Yorkshire but dreams of a simple life in a wooden house with his wife surrounded by mountains and snow. Along with contributing to Whitelines, Andy runs his own backcountry website, thegemsstock.com.
