South Coast to get a Snowdome?

If the rumours flying around the interweb are to be believed, the South Coast may soon be getting it’s very own snowdome! In an article published recently, the Southern Daily Echo revealed that plans to develop a brand new indoor slope are moving along quickly, with Southampton chosen as the likely site.

According to the local rag, “Southampton City Council wants the huge indoor snowsports centre to be built on the site of the city’s Town Depot”. Several companies, including SnoZone!, which operates the MK, Castleford and Braehead slopes, have been asked to bid for the right to build the new facility. The slope, which would be about 150-metres long, would come as a huge blessing to South Coast shredders, who currently have to journey up to Hemel Hempstead or Milton Keynes to get a sniff of real snow.

Southampton City Council is certainly hoping that it will attract riders and other visitors from around the area. While nothing is confirmed as yet, it seems the local authorities are mad keen to go ahead with the new development. A representative told our man Josh Richardson “Until the Council is in a position to select a development partner we will not know the details of the scheme. However the Council’s aspiration is to deliver a real-snow skiing facility…”

Well that all sounds pretty promising to us! Bring on the South Coast shred!
