SNolf: results and report

A week ago, SNolf went down at Tamworth SnowDome, bringing its unique golf scoring twist to the traditional snowboard rail jam format. Here’s the skinny from UK rider Mike Austin (who helped organise and run the event) on what went on that evening.

Words: Mike Austin

Building the fun atmosphere and calling the shots at Snolf was MC Tim Sandy who got everyone amped up ready for some fairway fun. The first half of the night included great spot prizes open to all abilities from Air Hole face masks, Picture clothing and Demon snowboard accessories.

Next came the Thirtytwo ‘longest drive’ comp. Shredders took turns popping over the golf club to land the furthest ollie. The crowning winner of this was Russ Orme bagging himself a top quality Demon Helmet.

Once all entrys were signed in for Snolf, 9 of the hardest tricks were selected by a panel of 3 judges. These tricks were then announced by Tim over the Mic and Snolf was ready to Tee off! The Leaderboard slowly filled with Birdies, Pars & Bogies showing the competitions difficulty with the ‘one try’ rule. Frustration was evident but also some uplift when one of the riders passed us and gleefully stated “i’ve never done that before” after nailing one of the tricks. Tension rose as the tricks got harder, one of the tricks a clear level higher caused a heavy penalty for one the riders. This was shortly followed by no successful landings by any one else either! (but the trick was landed – just not in the comp). Once all tricks were done the scores were loaded up onto the leaderboard, the results spoke for themselves.

The Snolf trophies were awarded and congratulations to Ollie Dutton with an impressive -2 at first place, Matt Higson in 2nd and joint 3rd went to Ross Needham & Andy Nudds.

Thanks to everyone who rode on the night and hope all the SNolf riders had fun and enjoyed it.
