Due to a loophole in the ranking system, there have been speculations about Kevin Pearce’s position as Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion. It is necessary for TTR to underline that Kevin Pearce still is, and will always be the 2007/2008 Swatch TTR World Tour Champion, this includes also the USD $ 50.000,- winners check, awarded at the USO in Stratton Mountain, Vermont.
With Shaun White’s outstanding results this season, he got 4th on the ranking after the USO even with only 5 results (you need 6 results to get maximum score, all results are divided by 6). This opened up a scenario where Shaun could have been the tour leader with a 6th and high enough final result. There is one more 4 star event left, the Snickers Classic in Saas Fee, Switzerland (April 17th to 20th). If Shaun enters this event, and earns enough points, he could take over the tour leader position at the end of April. He would also get the prize money according to his end of season ranking position.
Kevin Pearce will still remain the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion as the Burton US Open is, and will remain, the defining event for crowning the tour champion. This is a fact, due to all
announcements, the history and several definitions made by the TTR.
TTR admits that the existing ranking system has created some confusion and there is room for improvement. TTR will use the time before the General Assembly (New York City, 22nd May) to work on
closing this loophole.
Yours sincerly,
The TTR
