After a cold but clear start to the season here in New Zealand the ski fields are looking a little bare, but snowpark pulled out all the stops to get the park looking sick for first comp of the season.
An over subscribed field of 115 boarders and skiers wowed an audience of about 300 and impressed judges with their performances during the Electric Quarterpipe Battle.
Following a two-hour jam-style competition, three finalists from each category went through to the next round where riders pulled of a succession of tricks to stay in the competition. The creative mix of tricks, including back flips, back-to-back rotations and big air grabs, enabled competitors to perform for the crowd and get some huge air along the way.
New Zealand’s James Hamilton (18), a member of the national snowboard team took first place in the male snowboard competition. While for the second year in a row Abby Lockhart won the women’s snowboarding event.
