Could NeverWet be Used in Snowboarding?

WHAT KIND OF BLACK MAGIC IS THIS?

OK so this stuff is really, really weird. In fact, it’s kind of freaking us out. Apparently this video has been around for a while but we only just spotted it the other day.

NeverWet it seems is a spray-on chemical coating that they’re flogging in America which apparently repels water. And by the looks of things, pretty much every other liquid as well.

It’s kind of like a magic formula that stops water being water and makes it… I don’t know some sort of globule-based slidey substance that doesn’t soak into anything. Strange eh?

Anyway, as we do with every new invention, we inevitably started thinking about how you could use this stuff in snowboarding. Here are a few ideas we came up with:

1) To Make the ultimate waterproof outerwear

Look at the way water, vinegar and mustard runs off those shoes. If this stuff could be made even semi-breathable it would surely sh*t all over Gore-Tex from a great height right?

2) TO make your normal clothes INTO OUTERWear

You wouldn’t even need tech kit for really. Everyone likes shredding in hoodies, especially in domes and stuff. Imagine coating your favourite shred sweatshirt, pair of jeans or patch-covere denim jacket in this stuff, you’d never have to worry about them icing up around the bottom ever again.

3) To stop your goggles misting up

Goggles get misty cos of condensation on the lens right, so if you could make those droplets into globules that’d just slide off, you’d be sorted no?

4) TO Stop your gloves soaking through/icing up

Spray a coat of this stuff on them and you’d never get wrinkley “I’ve just spent an hour in the bath” fingers ever again. Nor would you have to crack the ice off your mitts when putting them back on after a digging session.

5) To make your board run faster

If you coated the bottom of your board with this, would you ever need to wax it again? We don’t really know, perhaps it would make it run slower, but we’d like to give it a go. If you put shitloads on, maybe it would even make your stick hover a bit like those magnetic trains they have in Japan…

OK so that last one might be a bit far-fetched, but assuming this stuff isn’t as toxic as drinking from the wrong grail it could be seriously useful. Well, we think so anyway, although we’d love to hear A) The opinions of any chemists who can tell us how the hell this stuff works and B) Any other ideas/objections for using this in snowboarding.
