We just stumbled across this insane video of an absolutely enormous avalanche which rolled down an Italian hillside on the 6th of February, totally destroying everything in its path.
What’s weird about this how slowly everything seems to move. At first it looks like someone pouring boiling water onto a cold surface – steam rises slowly off the snow, before it pours into the narrow valley like a waterfall. Cool-looking, but seemingly harmless.
But as it splits up and the chunks of snow began to roll down the valley, the size and power of the slide become obvious. Watching it creep forward scrunching trees as it goes is like watching a lumbering B-movie monster, slowly but inevitably destroying everything in its path. It just doesn’t stop!
And then it reaches those houses…
It reminds us of this crazy avalanche from Russia a few years’ back.
