There was a time when Max was flying under the radar, with countrymen Mark McMorris and Sebastian Toutant obscuring him from the limelight. However, that time is well and truly past.
He flirted with success a few times, including at the O’Neill Evolution in 2013 where, during practice, he stuck the first triple cork to be landed at a European event. While he eventually lost that one to Seb Toots, he went on to take both slopestyle and big air gold at the 2014 X Games. That made him a favourite for the upcoming Olympics, although he missed out on the medals and finished 5th.
Still, he remains one of the most consistent riders on the circuit – expect to see many more golds from Max down the line. Having unveiled the switch quadruple underflip in 2015, will that trick seal his next victory in big air?
