Seppe Smits

Belgium’s not famous for snowboarding – hell, they’re even more reliant on snowdomes and trips to France than we are – but the land of beer and waffles still managed to produce one Seppe Smits.

He’s been making his mark on the slopestyle scene since 2007, snatching his first podium at the O’Neill Pleasure Jam in 2008 and remaining a contender on the world stage ever since.

A master of the flat spin, he’s a refreshing addition to any corkfest – it’s no surprise that it was him who first stomped the cab 1440, which he put down at the Billabong Air & Style in 2011. The following year he was the TTR’s overall big air champ, and in 2013 he scooped two bronzes; one at the 2013 FIS World Snowboarding Championships in Olso, and the other at the X Games. In Sochi he was Belgium’s only representative, missing out on both automatic qualification AND the semi-final route by just one place.

A formidable competitor, then, but not above having a good old dick around; just check out his Life of Llamas blog.
