Watch what a couple of Aussie blokes got up to in the land of never-ending light, fluffy Yuki (the Japanese word for snow, if you were wondering). The trip didn’t totally go to plan but it looks like at least Jake McCarthy got some sweet Japow turns in.
We don’t usually cut and paste video descriptions but in this case we don’t think we could have put it better:
There Goes is a work in progress. It is/was intended to be a loose documentary style snowboard movie about Jye Kearney & Jake McCarthy and what they get up to for a whole year on and off the snow. Japan marks, or was meant to mark, the beginning of filming for the whole project but…
They say honesty is the best policy. Honestly, the trip did not really go to plan. It didn’t work out at all. Our first run was a blur of face shots and hooting. Our second run started off with one piercing yell – Jye Kearney’s dodgy ankle had given way. So it was all on Jake. He tore the bag out of it solo for a few days and then hit a tree.
The rest of the trip was spent in Sapporo with Jake nursing his ankle and Johnny McCormack and myself trying not to spend all our money on cameras (I still came home with 5 new cameras and enough rolls of film to choke a dozen donkeys).
Despite all of the above we had fun and the magic that is Japan did sprinkle over us constantly, usually in the form of a couple of feet of snow every night. As customary when explaining Japan to a non passport holder you have to cover the usual ground, amazing food, cloud like fluffy powder, Onsens and the novelty of getting your junk out with your mates to relax, beer can vending machines, hot coffee can vending machines, cheap cameras and film and of course the tiny cars that seems to rip through snow & black ice without ever losing a square centimetre of traction.
As the snow falls in Jindy, Jake, Jye and myself look forward to starting These Goes (again) with all of an Australian winter to film before we head north again.
Keep your eyes peeled as we will be releasing many more webisodes and other tid-bits along the way.
