Kilner Pushing for Olympic Qualification

Ben Kilner on the pipe at LG FIS World Cup

The second leg of the 2009 World Cup Halfpipe Tour in Saas-Fee Switzerland came to a close last Friday, 6th November. British Rider Ben Kilner narrowly missed out on making the finals, finishing his heat in 8th place with only the top 6 making it through – but did achieve his second-best placing to date at 14th, putting him in a good position at the start of the Olympic season.
Speaking after the results Mr Kilner said “I’m pleased with my result but obviously a little disappointed not to have made the finals. The conditions were really challenging but we got through it. The result keeps me on track for Vancouver so I’m really pleased with that”.
Three other Brits were in action in Saas-Fee including Dom Harrington from Leeds who finished 36th, and Kate Foster who started her season with a solid 25th. Lesley McKenna apparently achieved the ‘best bail of the day’ according to team coach Leo Addington after catching her heel edge on the coping of the pipe, but luckily didn’t injure herself.
Good luck to all the team in the next instalment of the World Cup in Kreischberg Austria on 6/7 Jan 2010.
