American halfpipe legend Kelly Clark absolutely demolished the competition with this run at the 2012 Winter X Games in Aspen, claiming her second gold medal in a row and, incredibly, her thirteenth consecutive superpipe victory in all competitions. ““I had the best season of my life last year and I didn’t expect the streak to keep going,” she said afterwards. “I think the things that I prioritized are really paying big dividends right now. I am really enjoying myself and learning new things.”
Since the freeskier Sarah Burke’s tragic death following an accident in practice in Utah, all eyes were on the superpipe here. Thankfully, both the women’s ski and snowboard events have gone off without any serious injuries, while Kelly’s winning run, which included a frontside air, backside 540, frontside 1080, cab 720 and a frontside 540, served as a reminder of just how skilled these athletes are.
Stay tuned for the showpiece men’s event which goes off tonight! Has Shaun White still got what it takes for another gold, or has all that time playing the showbiz game and this injury in the slopestyle scuppered his chances?
