The evergreen Sami Luhtanen

Steeze in the trees from the Finnish rail master

The doctor is in – and back on Ride Snowboards. Sami Luhtanen, one of the heaviest street riders of recent years, risks life, limb and splinters in this fresh clip.

Taking inspiration from nature – as well as one of the all-time creepiest animated series – the Finn breaks out all the classics of the genre (log tap, log-to-log-transfer, big-curved-log) and narrowly avoids becoming a Sonny Bono tribute act in the process. With its inexplicable daytime head-torch appearances, not to mention that unmistakable clak-clak-clak of P-tex on knobbly wood, it’s truly a feast for the senses.

As much as we’ve always enjoyed watching the good doc tear up the metal and concrete of Helsinki and the like, it’s a pleasure to see this lo-fi, 100% organic approach to jibbery. Plus he’s likely to clean up in the creative rounds at the next World Tree Hugging Championships. What is it with Finns and flora?
