Here in rapid succession is the second of Dan Wakeham’s new blog entries. This time he’s keeping Dom Harington and Ben Kilner on their toes with his first double cork attempt!
Yesterday the weather was bad so we had a day off. Today the sun came out and the sky was perfectly blue. There were so many people at the top of the pipe that it took about 20 minutes to drop in.
My plan was to get a double crippler in the pipe so I set up half way up the pipe so that I had enough space for two hits. It is hard to judge the speed of the other riders in the pipe but when you see a space you have to drop in fast. I had about five attempts but bottled it. I decided that I had to man up and go at it.
I set up with a backside air, which I landed smoothly with a clean line, I decided that this was the time, double or nothing. I took off well and as I went in to the second flip I felt like I was spinning fast so I started to straighten out. As I came around and saw my landing I realised that I didn’t have enough flip so I twisted to get out of it. The result was more like a double cork 1080, which isn’t all bad.
As I landed hard on my heels I broke my highback, so that was the end of the day for me.
