Rana stepped up to world-class level in 2014 after taking the gold at the FIS World Cup in Stoneham – a great start to the year. After placing 5th in the Sochi Olympics (her second) she was all set to be one of Japan’s new halfpipe stars, but she surprisingly announced in April of that year that she’d be retiring from competitive snowboarding.
