The original headwear company was started by ex-snowboard pro Brad Scheuffele in Salt Lake City and has been keeping the cold, warm and the trendy, cool for over a decade. Initially inspired by the way that beanies were just a way for brands to plonk a logo on and peddle, Brad decided to take a wholesome and design orientated approach to headwear design.
Coal has strong ties with C3 worldwide and shares many a team rider with Union and Capita; both have a very heavy team roster with straight up killers like Scott Stevens, Jess Kimura, Cale Zima, Mikey Le Blanc and Brandon Cocard all keeping their ears nice and toasty with the help of Coal.
Coal revolutionised the whole concept of headwear fit along its journey to the top. Annoyed with the ‘one size fits all’ mantra that most companies were peddling, Coal introduced different sizes, which in turn affected the fit on different headshapes (If only Bill Murray had known that his hat in ‘The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou’ would be a 2013 bonafide hit).
Coal continues to develop its fits, material and construction to this day using ecologically sourced products and biodegradable manufacturing techniques.
